Wilder on the Taylor River is pleased to welcome back the soldiers and mentors from the Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing (PHWFF) program for the third summer in a row. The Fort Carson chapter for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing will joining the Wilder on the Taylor’s team for several days of fishing, camaraderie, and some well deserved rest and relaxation. Wilder’s picturesque views and world class fly fishing offers a soothing respite for soldiers healing from physical and emotional trauma.
Last years soldiers from Project Healing Waters gave Wilder on the Taylor such high reviews they will be bringing a group of 8-10. “Out of all the places I’ve been with Project Healing Waters, Wilder is one of the top two. We couldn’t stop talking about it while we were there and on the way home,” says Joe Vigil, an active duty National Guardsman with 31 years of military service.
Wilder is honored to provide the soldiers and mentors of PHWFF a place where they can enjoy world class fly fishing on the Taylor River and continue their healing process. “It is truly an honor and a pleasure to be given the opportunity to get involved with America’s heroes, and I encourage everyone to get involved with honoring our troops who continue to sacrifice for us all,” says Ron Welborn, vice president of Jackson-Shaw
Wilder on the Taylor’s Master Guide Program was recently spotlighted in the Gunnison Country Times. The article noted Wilder’s private fly fishing ranch’s two professional Master Guides Lu Warner, who will be leading private fly fishing, and mountain biking excursions and Don Sabrowski who will leading the ranching and horseback-riding excursions.
Wilder’s dedication to conservation and preservation naturally lead them to start the Master Guide Program. “The master guides program was introduced to enhance and broaden owners’ and guests’ experiences at Wilder,” noted Ron Welborn, partner at Wilder on the Taylor and an avid fly fisherman. “The focus is to offer the recreational adventures along with increased knowledge provided by our guides, both on the trail and on the water, thereby increasing their enjoyment of this incredible area.”

Several of our owners at Wilder completed construction on their homesteads this past fall 2012. One owner built a custom log home complete with over 1,400 sq ft of porch to take in all the picturesque views of the meadow and the Taylor River and all the surrounding National Forest surrounding the ranch. A second owner completed their personalized guest cabin on the banks of one of Wilder’s trout ponds. A third owner plans to break ground this year! The architectural drawings are magnificent and we can’t wait to see the finished custom home.
To see these homes completed just confirms the vision of Wilder on the Taylor, commented Ron Welborn, Partner at Wilder on the Taylor. The owners are now experiencing gentle winter snow and will soon experience the cool summer breezes from their porches as the ranch continues to grow and come alive with families and events as we all share the enjoyment of Colorado mountain lifestyle.
We are very pleased with the Founders Porch building with its’ canvas walls that harken back to summer camp. It is just a magnificent place for friends and family to gather on the banks of the Taylor River while relaxing over a cup of coffee, glass of wine or family cookout. It really adds the authenticity and experience that everyone enjoys while at the Camp at Wilder on the Taylor. — Ron Welborn, Partner
