During the spring melt, the Taylor River has consistently proven to be the strong, productive fishery that fly fishing anglers have grown to respect.  If spring is any indication of what fishing will be like this summer, we are in for a great fly-fishing season. Even with early signs of run off in the East and Gunnison Rivers, the Taylor River remains crystal clear. After the long winter, fish have been aggressively feeding on both big stone flies and small midges. The spawning Rainbow population and the aggressive nature of the German Browns has made for legendary streamer fishing.

Wilder’s fish in Rarick Creek and the community ponds have made it through the winter well and are in constant search of their next meal. Rarick Creek continues to produce trophy size trout on large dry flies. The ponds are teeming with feeding fish sipping small blue wings off of the surface.

In a recent update from Crested Butte Resort Real Estate, Doug Duryea, Managing Broker/Realtor at Created Butte Resort Real Estate, stated the first two months of 2013 have witnessed strong activity in Crested Butte. Since January there have been over 30 closed transactions with another 40 properties under contract. The update also pointed out the fact that vacant land continues to make a strong comeback with 10 open homesites sold in the first two months of 2013.

All of these are indicators that real estate market in Crested Butte is not only coming back but is coming back strong. The low inventory and high demand has agents asking for more properties to sell. Some times it’s hard to predict the future in real estate but it looks like the Crested Butte real estate market is back on the rise.

CBMR (Crested Butte Mountain Resort) recently submitted the resort’s Master Development Plan (MDP) to the US Forest Service. For those who may be a little hazy on what the MDP is, the MDP is Crested Butte’s future road map for development of future projects, philosophies, and incorporates previous approvals. The goal of this MDP was to create a balanced resort allowing for year-round recreational experiences.
