Crested Butte Mountain Biking Mecca

At Wilder on the Taylor, you are in hallowed mountain bike country. Nearby, Crested Butte is one of the birthplaces of mountain biking, sharing this lofty two-wheeled title with Marin County, California. The town also hosts the world’s oldest mountain bike festival, Crested Butte Bike Week (formerly known as Fat Tire Bike Week), in late June and is home to the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame, located in The Crested Butte Mountain Bike Museum.

Mountain biking race series are held at Crested Butte Mountain Resort in the summer on various Wednesday evenings in July and August and at Hartman Rocks Multi-Use Recreation Area in Gunnisonon certain Thursday evenings and Saturdays in April, May and September. Crested Butteis a stop on the Leadville 100 Qualifying Series on Sept. 15, and the grueling 36th annual Pearl Pass Mountain Bike Tour from Crested Butte to Aspen takes place Sept. 8 – 9.
